Job summary

BD Group is hiring a Bricklayer for a temporary assignment based in Barking & Dagenham. You will deliver brickwork repairs, maintenance and refurbishment across tenanted, commercial, and void properties, with a focus on high-quality, first-time fixes.

You must hold an NVQ Level 2 in Bricklaying (or equivalent) and have experience in brickwork repairs. A UK driving licence and the ability to work in occupied properties are essential.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Bricklaying or equivalent qualification.
• Experience carrying out brickwork repairs and maintenance.
• Good knowledge of bricklaying methods, materials and safe working practices.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider repairs and maintenance team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out brickwork repairs and maintenance to tenanted, commercial and void properties.
• Repair and rebuild walls, brickwork, blockwork and other masonry as required.
• Undertake repointing and repair damaged or deteriorated mortar joints.
• Carry out repairs to paths, steps, walls and other external structures.
• Prepare work areas, mix mortar, cut materials and ensure brickwork is completed to a high standard.
• Conduct routine inspections to identify and address potential issues.
• Respond promptly to emergency and urgent repairs, minimising disruption to tenants.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs and works completed, including before and after photos.

This is a temporary position with BD Group. Successful candidates will be employed and paid through Adecco, who are supporting us with the recruitment of these roles.

While initially temporary, there is potential for the role to become permanent in the future for successful candidates, subject to business requirements and performance.

What we are looking for:

We are currently looking for Bricklayers to join our BDMS team, delivering high-quality brickwork, maintenance and repair work.

Operating within Managed Services, you’ll undertake brickwork repairs, maintenance and refurbishment across tenanted, commercial and void properties, with a focus on achieving a high-quality, first-time fix wherever possible. You’ll ensure excellent service and client satisfaction while working across Barking & Dagenham.

Working Arrangements:

• Working pattern: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
• Location: Barking & Dagenham, with travel throughout the borough required.
• Vehicle: Vehicle provided for work duties.
• Employment arrangement: Temporary assignment, employed through Adecco.
• Future opportunities: Potential opportunity to move into a permanent BDMS position in the future, subject to business requirements and performance.
• DBS: A DBS check will be required for this role.

Duties:

• Carry out brickwork repairs and maintenance to tenanted, commercial and void properties.
• Repair and rebuild walls, brickwork, blockwork and other masonry as required.
• Undertake repointing and repair damaged or deteriorated mortar joints.
• Carry out repairs to paths, steps, walls and other external structures.
• Prepare work areas, mix mortar, cut materials and ensure brickwork is completed to a high standard.

• Respond promptly to emergency and urgent repairs, minimising disruption to tenants.
• Ensure client satisfaction through clear communication and professionalism.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs and works completed, including before and after photos.
• Work effectively alongside other trades and maintenance team members where required.
• Utilise IT equipment, including PDAs, for job monitoring and work allocation.
• Ensure all work complies with relevant regulations and health and safety requirements.
• Maintain tools, equipment and materials appropriately.

Qualifications & Experience:

• NVQ Level 2 in Bricklaying or equivalent qualification.
• Previous experience carrying out brickwork repairs and maintenance.
• Good knowledge of bricklaying methods, materials and safe working practices.
• Ability to identify defects and determine appropriate repairs.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider repairs and maintenance team.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work professionally within occupied properties and around residents.
• Full UK driving licence.
