Job summary

Hemiko is recruiting a Breakdown Engineer (Commercial Gas) to join our Technical Manager-led team. You will service and repair commercial gas boilers across our heat network fleet, perform planned preventive maintenance, and handle reactive call-outs with a focus on reliability and efficiency.

The role requires 2+ years in commercial gas, NVQ Level 3 in Gas, and relevant registrations (TPCP1 & BMP1). A UK driving license is essential, and training for HIU repairs is a plus.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience working as a Commercial Gas Engineer or similar
• Commercial gas registration, TPCP1 & BMP1 training required
• NVQ Level 3 in Gas is required
• Knowledge of HIU repairs
• Experience with maintenance and repairs on boilers from Hoval, Hamworthy, Ideal, Buderus, etc.
• Operational knowledge of commercial gas boilers and heat network plantrooms
• Able to read technical drawings e.g., P&IDs & mechanical schematics
• Electrical competency (basic) and safe isolation capability
• Full UK driving licence (12 months+)

Responsibilities

• Work under the direct supervision of the Technical Manager
• Complete planned preventative maintenance on commercial gas boilers, pumps, actuators, plate heat exchangers, pressurisation units, degassers
• Repair and reinstatement of commercial plant
• Fault finding and repairs to commercial gas boilers and associated equipment
• Attend reactive call-outs to restore heat and fix plant failures
• Be part of on-call rota (about 1 in 4)
• Review root causes for plant failures and address operational issues
• Manage site-based project work and scope for plant remediation
• Mentor/train new engineers
• Ensure safe isolation before commencing works
• Maintain clear online work order records

Job description

Hemiko are recruiting for a Breakdown Engineer (Commercial Gas) reporting to the Technical Manager.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering operation and maintenance services across our fleet of heat networks. We are looking for someone who has a valid commercial gas certificate, with experience servicing and repairing commercial boiler equipment. Experience maintaining and operating commercial non-gas plant, e.g., pumps, valves, strainers, would be beneficial. The role will be varied, undertaking PPMs, reactive call outs, planned repairs and project work, to further improve reliability and network efficiency across the fleet of networks we operate.

We are looking for an experienced engineer with at least 2 years relevant experience of working within Plant rooms on boiler in excess of 1MW who is knowledgeable, reliable and someone who will contribute positively to our safe & supportive working culture.

The Role

Hemiko are seeking a Breakdown Engineer (Commercial Gas) to work under/with our Technical Manager to learn and develop while delivering value to the Operations Department.

Specifically, the successful candidate will have a strong competency within the commercial gas field, with 1-3 years working as a Commercial Gas Engineer. They need to have experience servicing gas boilers of various manufacturers, and able to fault find and replace parts comfortably. Experience in district heating networks is preferred but not essential.

Key responsibilities:

• Working under the direct supervision of our Technical Manager
• Completion of planned preventative maintenance activities in line with company maintenance schedules (commercial gas boilers, pumps, actuators, plate heat exchangers, pressurisation units, degassers)
• Repair and reinstatement of commercial plant (as per above)
• Completion of fault finding and repairs to commercial gas boilers and other equipment including pumps and pipework
• Attend reactive call-outs to sites to reinstate heat and resolve plant failures
• Take part in an on-call rota and attend callouts (typically 1 week in 4)
• Review root causes for plant failure (resolve operational issues which arise)
• Management of site-based project work and development of the scope of works for plant remediation.
• Budding up and training of new engineers
• Safe isolation of equipment before commencing works
• Good communication with the team always
• Ensure maintenance system records are kept up to date to ensure accurate and secure records. This will involve the completion of clear and concise online work orders.

Knowledge & Experience

• 2 years of experience working as a Commercial Gas Engineer or in a similar capacity
• Commercial gas registration, Testing & Purging Training Course (TPCP1) & Gas Booster (BMP1) required
• NVQ Level 3 in Gas
• Knowledge on HIU repairs
• Experience with maintenance and repairs on commercial gas boilers by manufacturers including: Hoval, Hamworthy, Ideal, Buderus, etc.
• Operational knowledge of commercial gas boilers is required. Knowledge of heat network energy centers and plantrooms.
• Able to read technical drawings e.g., P&IDs & mechanical schematics.
• Electrical competency (basic).
• Competent with safe isolation (mechanical and electrical).
• Full UK driving license (valid for at least 12 months)

• Remuneration: Base £45,000 - £47,500.
