Role Overview

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to manage our day-to-day financial transactions and support the finance function. This role will focus on maintaining accurate records across the sales and purchase ledgers, handling CIS-related tasks, and preparing applications for payment. The ideal candidate will have strong bookkeeping experience, excellent attention to detail, and a good understanding of construction industry financial practices.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Purchase Ledger Management

• Maintain accurate records of customer invoices and payments.
• Create sales invoices
• Process supplier invoices and ensure timely payments.
• Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies.

CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) Administration

• Apply CIS deductions correctly for subcontractors.
• Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations.
• Submit monthly CIS returns and maintain relevant documentation.

Applications for Payment

• Prepare and submit applications for payment based on project manager instructions.
• Ensure all supporting documentation is accurate and complete.
• Track submitted applications and follow up on outstanding payments.

General Bookkeeping Duties

• Bank reconciliations and cash flow tracking.
• Assist with VAT returns and other financial reporting.
• Support the wider finance team with ad hoc tasks as required.

Skills & Qualifications

• Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting, ideally within the construction or engineering sector.
• Strong understanding of sales and purchase ledger processes.
• Familiarity with CIS regulations and procedures.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
