Job description
Board Members and Deputy Chair
Disused Tips Authority for Wales

Join the inaugural Board of the Disused Tips Authority for Wales, a new Arm’s Length Body that will begin operating on 1 April 2027.

This is an opportunity to help shape a new organisation from its earliest stages, contributing to work that will help keep communities across Wales safe from the risks associated with disused coal and non‑coal tips.

The Authority will lead a proactive, national approach to the assessment, registration, monitoring and management of disused tips.

Working closely with the newly appointed Chair, Board Members and the Deputy Chair will help set the strategic direction, ensure strong governance, and support the Authority to carry out its statutory responsibilities with integrity, transparency and ambition.

What We’re Looking For

The Welsh Government are keen to hear from collaborative individuals who bring fresh perspectives and a strong commitment to public service. Board Members should have expertise in at least one of the following areas:

  • Finance
  • Audit, governance or legal
  • Risk
  • HR, people or transformation
  • Engineering (ground or civil), environmental management, or mining/geology

Applicants for Deputy Chair will also need to show substantial leadership experience, particularly during periods of organisational change, and the ability to support high‑level strategic decision‑making.

Why Join the Board?

This is a chance to help build a nationally significant organisation with a clear and important purpose. Your insight and leadership will contribute to public safety, environmental resilience, and a legacy that supports communities shaped by Wales’s industrial past.
