Job summary

WSP Global Inc. is seeking a Principal Biodiversity Net Gain Specialist to lead BNG assessments and strategies across diverse UK infrastructure projects. You will work within the Nature Services team, guiding multidisciplinary experts to embed biodiversity into planning, design and delivery.

You’ll combine technical depth with commercial awareness, mentoring colleagues and expanding client relationships, while driving best practices across projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
• Significant experience delivering and leading Biodiversity Net Gain projects within consultancy, infrastructure, development or environmental sectors.
• Strong working knowledge of Statutory Biodiversity Metric, UKHab habitat classification and habitat condition assessment.
• Experience preparing and reviewing BNG Assessments, BNG Strategies and Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans.

Responsibilities

• Lead and provide technical oversight of BNG assessments, metric calculations and habitat condition assessments.
• Develop and review BNG strategies, technical reports, HMMPs and planning documentation.
• Advise clients and project teams on legislation, policy, guidance and ecological best practice.
• Develop practical on-site and off-site habitat enhancement, restoration and creation solutions.
• Support EcIA, EIA and planning applications.
• Drive consistency, innovation and technical excellence across the business.
• Manage projects and workstreams from inception through to delivery.
• Oversee programme, budget, resource planning, quality assurance and risk management.
• Identify project opportunities and support commercial success.
