Job Title: BMS Engineer

Location: Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Contract: Permanent | Full-Time

Mitie are looking for an experienced BMS Maintenance Engineer to join our growing team of engineers. Reporting directly into the Account Manager, the post holder will support the estates team in the provision of high‑quality maintenance services across the site, ensuring the upkeep of designated areas by carrying out general and specific duties as directed.

The role is based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle.

Responsibilities

You will be expected to maintain the site Building Management System and other similar computerised control systems. You will do this by carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, servicing, testing, diagnosis, repairs and calibration of advanced electrical and mechanical installations, plant and equipment.

You must ensure that the Building Management System is optimised for maximum Energy Efficiency. You will work closely with the Mitie Energy Consultant to ensure that the Annual Energy Target is achieved and bettered. You will produce monthly energy reports and produce data as required to ensure the quarterly and annual energy reports are created and issued on time as well as attending the Joint Energy Working Group as required.

You will become a subject matter expert for all things BMS and automated controls by attending Schieder Electric's EcoStruxure training programme, and leveraging your previous experience in Building Management Systems.

As a part of your breakdown maintenance responsibilities, you must ensure sufficient “Disaster Recovery” mechanisms and parts are in place to ensure that BMS downtime is kept to minimum. You will need to ensure work is carried out safely and in accordance with company and industry Health and Safety policies and procedures while maintaining accurate estates record and plant history.

  • Participate in an out of hours, on call rota.
  • Deal with new situations as they arise.
  • Pass on working knowledge as required.
  • Undertake training as required.
Knowledge and Experience
  • The BMS Engineer will be employed on work appropriate to his/her core skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of large scale, industry recognised BMS systems (Tridium Niagara / Trend / Siemens Desigo / Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure / Honeywell BMS Solutions / Distech Controls)
  • Knowledge of standard electrical wiring and installation practices, electronic components, and electrical schematic symbols.
  • Experience of BMS Energy Management on a large site, working to challenging Energy Targets
  • Knowledge of modern Energy Centre technologies and controls to include, but not limited to CHPs, Boilers, Generators, Absorption and Electric Chillers, Ground and Air Source Heat Pumps (desirable).
  • Knowledge of general HVAC installation and operation.
  • Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) third party interface protocols, to include Bacnet, Modbus and Mbus (desirable)
  • Computer skills with exposure to Windows driven applications.

You will operate as part of an effective Professional Estates Maintenance team. You will have drive and enthusiasm, be self motivated and be expected to work on your own initiative and work as part of a team.

Qualifications
  • Completion of a recognised engineering apprenticeship
  • A suitable City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ 3 or equivalent
  • 5 years post apprenticeship experience, preferably within a health care environment.
  • IEE18th edition wiring regulations 2381 (desirable)
  • City & Guilds electrical installation inspection and testing 2391

The post holder will have an obligation to undertake necessary training to ensure the level of competency is up held.
