Job summary

ZSL is seeking a dedicated Zookeeper within the Bird section of our Animal Department at Whipsnade Zoo, one of the UK's largest zoos, set in the Chiltern Hills.

You will care for a diverse range of birds and support enrichment, training, and welfare alongside the team, contributing to conservation. This full-time role is 37.5 hours per week with a rota including weekends and bank holidays.

Qualifications

• Practical experience working with animals in a zoo or aquarium.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on a rota.
• Positive and flexible approach to physical, hands-on work.

Responsibilities

• Food preparation and feeding procedures.
• Maintain hygiene and cleanliness of exhibits and equipment.
• Contribute to high standards of husbandry, welfare, and enrichment.
• Observe animal health and behavior and report concerns to supervision.

Skills

Practical zoo/aquarium experience

Driving licence (UK)

Education

Zookeeper and Aquarist Apprenticeship Programme

Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA)
