The successful applicant will work closely with laboratory staff in a busy but friendly environment and will be responsible for delegated tasks that form part of a fit‑for‑purpose medical laboratory service. This includes analysing and reporting on blood, urine and other body fluids to support efficient, effective patient care and resource management.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform daily routine and specialised diagnostic services on patient and environmental samples containing potentially infectious material on a rotational basis using manual and automated techniques to exacting medical and scientific standards according to standard operating procedures.
  2. Interpret diagnostic investigations daily, managing technical/analytical non‑conformities and informing the line manager when required.
  3. Enter data accurately and timely onto the laboratory computer system and/or automated analysers using a VDU and keyboard workstation.
  4. Record reports for authorisation in electronic form and, where appropriate, verbally to persons authorised to receive them.
  5. Provide quality checks on outputs, maintaining necessary internal records.
  6. Participate in external and internal quality assurance schemes and in vertical and horizontal audits as directed by senior staff.
  7. Work to meet laboratory performance targets as directed by senior staff.
  8. Under supervision, develop and investigate new techniques as required by the changing needs of the service.
  9. Notify and discuss progress of training towards a post‑registration specialist competence portfolio with the laboratory training officer and other senior staff as appropriate.
Qualifications & Requirements

• HCPC registration and relevant NHS experience are mandatory. Applicants must provide an immunisation and vaccination report from their current UK occupational health provider or their GP.

• Subject to contract, training and competence assessment, the post holder may discharge analytical duties either working alone or as part of a small team.

The position offers the opportunity to work with state‑of‑the‑art analysers and be part of a team dedicated to delivering high‑quality, first‑class Biochemistry and Immunology services. You will gain exposure to a wide range of learning and development opportunities and be part of an organisation that values diversity, equality and the full use of talent.
