Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Microbiology team as a HCPC registered band 5 Biomedical scientist at Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services (CWPS) based at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW).

We serve the communities of Coventry and Warwickshire and have Pathology Departments across University Hospital, Coventry; George Eliot Hospital; Warwick Hospital; and St Cross Hospital, Rugby. Microbiology is centralised at our Coventry site and serves over 250 GP practices as well as the acute hospital Trusts in these locations.

Overview

The Microbiology department performs testing, reporting and clinical advice services for all hospitals and the surrounding GP practices. The department is currently out to tender for full laboratory automation and a significant upgrade in equipment throughout the laboratory, providing an opportunity to be involved in the implementation of this into routine diagnostic service. The successful applicant will receive opportunities to expand operational and leadership experience.

Responsibilities
  • Work as a Biomedical Scientist performing a range of microbiological techniques to assist in the clinical diagnosis of microbiological disease.
  • Rotate through all sections of Microbiology.
  • Participate in shift rotas, including working weekends, bank holidays and the on‑call rota once suitably trained.
  • Support the implementation of laboratory automation and equipment upgrades.
  • Engage in the on‑going transformation of the service and bring forward ideas for improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Completed the registration portfolio in Microbiology (HCPC registered).
  • UK NHS lab experience in microbiology.
  • Will be expected to meet immunisation and vaccination requirements, reporting from UK occupational health provider or UK GP.
Working Hours & Shift Rotas
  • Shift rotation includes weekends, bank holidays and an on‑call rota upon training.
