Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Biomedical Scientist to join the Histopathology Department, supporting busy immunohistochemistry services and molecular diagnostics in a teaching hospital setting.

The role offers progression towards Band 7 criteria and involvement in digital pathology projects, with a strong emphasis on professional development and collaboration across a large multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Work in immunohistochemistry/service alongside office, laboratory and Consultant Pathologist staff.

• Contribute to digital pathology reporting initiatives and use of CEREBRO specimen tracking system.

Job description

A post is available in the Histopathology Department. This post presents an exciting opportunity to be part of an excellent team working in a busy modern teaching hospital laboratory. The department has a workload of around 80 000 surgical requests per year and covers a wide range of routine and specialised services. The immunocytochemistry section processes over 60 000 routine diagnostic slides per year as well as carrying out immunohistochemistry companion diagnostics and skin immunofluorescence. The section also undertakes a number of solid tumour molecular diagnostics including single point PCR analysis, FISH and CISH., This is an excellent opportunity to work within a committed team of office, laboratory and Consultant Pathologist staff. The department encourages active professional development and further educational activities. The service is expanding Biomedical Scientist advanced dissection and Biomedical Scientist reporting roles. The service is also currently developing digital pathology reporting, and is progressing towards full digital reporting. We also use CEREBRO specimen tracking system.

If you do not meet the criteria for the band 7 job role, we will also consider applications from candidates with the IBMS specialist Diploma (Histopathology) or equivalent, who are working towards the essential qualifications for the band 7 job description, and who meet the other essential criteria for the role. You will start in a band 6 role working in the immunohistochemistry service until the band 7 essential qualification criteria is met. This will be expected to be completed within an agreed timeframe.
