Job summary

IMS Recruitment is recruiting a BIOMEDICAL SCIENTIST / LABORATORY MEDICINE SCIENTIST for the pathology department of a hospital in Gibraltar. This is a 6-month fixed-term contract to perform analytical testing in Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Coagulation.

The post requires HCPC registration, a BSc or higher in Biomedical Science, and at least 3 years’ experience. Salary ranges from £31,897 to £37,845 per annum pro rata, with free accommodation and return flights included.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration is mandatory to practice in the UK.
• BSc or higher in Biomedical Science required.
• At least 3 years’ relevant experience in haematology/blood transfusion.

Responsibilities

• Perform analytical testing in Haematology, Blood Transfusion, and Coagulation.
• Validate and authorize patient results per lab policies.
• Carry out blood grouping, antibody screening, crossmatching, and issue blood components.
• Investigate abnormal results and liaise with clinicians.
• Ensure quality management and accreditation compliance.
• Calibrate analysers and perform QC procedures.
• Participate in quality assurance programmes.
• Maintain documentation and health and safety compliance.
• Authorise transfusion decisions and manage serology discrepancies.
• Monitor donor serology and blood component inventory.
