Job description
Biomedical Scientist - Haematology (Registered/Specialist)

There is an exciting opportunity for x2 Biomedical Scientists to join our team in the Automated Blood Sciences - Haematology Laboratories primarily based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. This opportunity will also provide the successful candidate(s) insight into specialist haematology testing in the Cell Mathers and Haemolysis laboratories. These posts will include rotation into the Blood Transfusion department.

The positions available include x1 full-time permanent contract and x1 full-time fixed-term 6-month contract for maternity cover. Please note, that if the contract length is directly proportional to the maternity return date, therefore, the contract may be <6 months depending on start date.

The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Partnership fully integrates the pathology services delivered on behalf of the Partner Trusts within the Integrated Care System (ICS) footprint, Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

Applicants must possess an IBMS accredited degree in Biomedical Sciences, ideally with relevant experience in Clinical Chemistry, and hold current registration with the HCPC (Band 5/Band 6 BMS). If applying for a Band 6 role, candidates will have completed the IBMS specialist portfolio in Haematology or be ready for assessment.

Ensure all tests are performed efficiently within the assigned time and in accordance with established protocols to the required standards.

Assist in maintaining high scientific and technical standards.

Maintain complex pieces of laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results are produced for patients.

To be accountable for own professional actions and work for long periods of time without direct supervision.

Assist in monitoring quality standards, perform audit as directed in line with service needs.

Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant/s will start at Band 5 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 6.
