Biomedical Scientist (Specialist Portfolio) – Belfast

VANRATH is recruiting a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist based in Belfast. Full-time hours (Mon–Fri 08:30–16:30). Band 5 salary scale.

Overview

The post-holder will work with the Clinical Lead, BMS Service Manager and Laboratory team to ensure a high quality, cost-effective and efficient laboratory service that meets UKAS accreditation standards.

Key Duties

• Comply with Trust and Laboratory policies to maintain UKAS accreditation.
• Understand laboratory procedures and perform routine analytical procedures.
• Develop core practical skills in other laboratory disciplines relevant to a Cellular Pathology service.
• Perform special assignments or relevant duties as approved.
• Ensure accuracy and clarity of all sample examination and reporting documentation.
• Support implementation and maintenance of SOPs and applicable documentation.
• Conform to statutory Health and Safety procedures.
• Maintain an efficient, effective and documented quality management system.
• Supervise and support Band 5 BMS staff in training for specialist portfolio.
• Advise BMS Team Managers on stock levels of reagents and consumables per in-house inventory policies.
• Attend refresher and management courses; keep abreast of latest developments in journals and contribute to in-service training programmes and CPD.
• An extended working day is required; the post-holder will participate accordingly.

Essential Criteria

• Specialist portfolio.
• 1 year experience post HCPC and HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.

Salary

£37,338 – £44,962 as per Band 6 salary scale (plus enhanced annual leave, pension and staff benefits).
