Job description
Overview

Biomedical Scientist – Cellular Pathology (Band 5, 37.5hrs/week) – 12 month fixed‑term contract covering maternity leave. Join our busy Cellular Pathology team at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. The department processes over 22,000 surgical histology requests and 1,600 non‑gynaecological specimens annually.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrated cellular pathology expertise and IBMS registration portfolio. • Self‑motivated, organised and actively engaged in CPD activities. • Work alongside Medical Laboratory Assistants, Assistant Practitioners, Junior Medical staff and Consultant Pathologists. • Rotate through all laboratory sections and participate in early/late rota following relevant training. • Engage fully with digital pathology and Vantage workflow management systems, supporting day‑to‑day operation and service development. • Promote safeguarding and welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, implementing Trust policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • Appropriate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • State registration in the appropriate role (IBMS).
  • Experience in a relevant discipline; NHS laboratory experience desirable.
  • IBMS Specialist Portfolio begun/in progress.
  • Experience with digital pathology desirable.
  • Computer literacy and criteria‑driven application essential.
