Job summary

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is seeking a Biomedical Scientist to join its Haematology & Transfusion team. You will work across Dewsbury, Pinderfields, and Pontefract laboratories in a rotational pattern covering days, lates, nights, and weekends.

The role focuses on delivering accurate testing, quality control, and patient-centered care within a busy, supportive service. Applicants should hold an IBMS-accredited degree with HCPC registration (or be completing the IBMS Registration

• Contribute to service improvement by assisting with new methods, equipment evaluation and stock control.

About the role

Biomedical Scientist – Haematology & Transfusion. Rotational shifts (days, lates, nights, weekends)

Make a difference across a busy, friendly service delivering high-quality care to our communities. We’re looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated Biomedical Scientist to join our Haematology & Transfusion team. You will work across Dewsbury and Pinderfields laboratories, with support as and when required at Pontefract.

About the service

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust spans Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury hospitals. Haematology and Transfusion laboratories operate at Pinderfields and Dewsbury, with a remote analyser at Pontefract. You’ll be part of a supportive team that values collaboration, learning and patient centred practice.

• Applicants must hold an IBMS accredited degree and HCPC registration or completion of the IBMS Registration Portfolio in Haematology and Transfusion Science. Applications from individuals with IBMS accredited degrees who are working towards HCPC registration may be considered.
• A positive, flexible team-player willing to participate in the rotational shift pattern (days, lates, nights, weekends) and to work across all three sites as service needs require.

Main duties

As a Biomedical Scientist in Haematology & Transfusion, you’ll:

Essential person specification requirements

We’re looking for someone who brings both technical expertise and team spirit:

• IBMS-accredited degree and HCPC registration (IBMS Registration Portfolio completed).
• Experience working in NHS Haematology & Blood Transfusion, including out-of-hours shifts.
• Sound knowledge of health & safety and strict respect for patient confidentiality.
• Confident working independently and demonstrating excellent laboratory practice.
• Clear, precise communication skills, both written and verbal, with colleagues at all levels.
• A strong team player, calm under pressure, with a friendly and approachable manner.
• Enthusiastic about ongoing training, development and service improvement.
• Flexible, adaptable, and ready to take on new challenges.
