A leading teaching trust in the United Kingdom is seeking a Biomedical Scientist to join their histopathology department. The role involves processing specimens, performing histological techniques, and training colleagues. Candidates must hold IBMS recognised qualifications and HCPC registration. Histopathology forms part of the Cellular Pathology Clinical Service Unit, which provides a diagnostic service for a wide variety of specialties within the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and surrounding region. As a biomedical scientist you will be involved in all areas of the laboratory, processing specimens and performing histological techniques to enable a diagnosis. Applications will be accepted from non‑registered histology experienced staff but to be shortlisted you must hold an IBMS recognised BMS degree or equivalent qualification pre‑approved by IBMS, IBMS Approved BSc (Hons) Degree or equivalent, and HCPC registration. Qualified biomedical scientists will play a role in training others and may take on specific laboratory responsibilities as well as developing specialist knowledge and leadership skills as they prepare to become specialist biomedical scientists or team leaders.
You will be responsible for processing specimens, performing histological techniques to support diagnosis, training colleagues, and developing specialist knowledge and leadership skills to progress toward specialist biomedical scientist or team leader roles.
The department is accredited for training and views continual professional development as essential. HCPC registered applicants are expected to attain the IBMS specialist portfolio within two years of employment/registration. Upon attainment, progression to band 6 under Agenda for Change Annex 20 is possible.
