Job summary

The University of Cambridge Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology is seeking a proactive Laboratory Technician to support the safe and efficient operation of its biological laboratories and communal facilities. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you will provide technical support to ensure day-to-day operations, collaborating with researchers, students and professional services colleagues.

• Practical experience in a biological laboratory environment.
• Knowledge of biological safety and good laboratory practice.
• Ability to operate standard lab equipment and follow SOPs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare media and reagents for daily laboratory use.
• Operate autoclaves and manage waste streams.
• Maintain lab consumables and communal facilities.
• Support safety checks, SOPs and risk assessments.
• Keep documentation up to date and ensure equipment is clean and operational.
