Main purpose of the role

The role of Assistant Laboratory Scientist is focused on supporting the department in striving for customer service excellence in internal and external activities. They should provide support the team in ensuring that all initiatives are fully implemented and that role model/ambassador behaviour, values and beliefs are adopted across the department. An Assistant Laboratory Scientist should be able to work well with minimal supervision, whilst also working effectively as a key team member to maximise the overall service delivered. A flexible "can do" approach is essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Routine preparation of blood and urine samples.
  • Operation of Biochemistry analysers.
  • Sample reception
  • Use of the LIMS system for result entry and data checking.
  • Reception and booking in of stock and reagents.
  • Maintaining and correct use of Laboratory equipment.
  • Adherence to and maintenance of written Standard Operating Procedures
  • Laboratory. general housekeeping
  • Responsible for delivering their assigned areas of work, liaising with the Section Head and colleagues as necessary.
  • Ensures that internal and external quality control requirements are met.
  • Works flexibly and collaboratively.
  • Adopts role model behaviour, values and beliefs.
