Job summary

Unbound Talent UK is recruiting an experienced Billing Manager for a leading law firm in London. The role combines hands-on billing with supervising a team, ensuring accurate invoices and timely collections across a partner portfolio.

You will oversee WIP and debt reporting, drive process improvements, and ensure compliance with VAT rules and SRA Accounts Rules while supporting colleagues’ development.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with partners and fee earners, prioritising billing and resolving queries.
• Review WIP and outstanding balances to progress billing and collections.
• Oversee preparation, approval and issue of accurate invoices in line with client requirements.
• Manage complex billing arrangements, including electronic invoicing and foreign-currency transactions.
• Produce reporting on billing activity, WIP and debtors for senior stakeholders.
• Support workload planning, training, development and performance reviews for the billing team.
• Improve processes and controls to deliver an efficient, consistent service.
• Ensure billing activities comply with VAT requirements and SRA Accounts Rules.

An established law firm is seeking an experienced Billing Manager to lead a responsive, accurate billing service while supporting and developing its billing team.

This is a hands‑on role combining responsibility for a partner billing portfolio with team supervision, process improvement and oversight of work in progress and outstanding fees.

The role

• Build strong relationships with partners and fee earners, agreeing billing priorities and resolving queries.
• Hold regular reviews of WIP and outstanding balances to progress billing and collections.
• Oversee the preparation, approval and issue of accurate invoices in line with client requirements.
• Manage complex billing arrangements, including electronic invoicing and foreign‑currency transactions.
• Produce reporting on billing activity, WIP and debtors for senior stakeholders.

About you

You will bring substantial legal billing experience, alongside previous responsibility for supervising or managing a team. You'll be confident working directly with partners, comfortable challenging constructively and able to balance your own billing workload with supporting others.

You will also have:

• Strong knowledge of VAT as it applies to legal billing and a sound understanding of SRA Accounts Rules.
• Experience using legal accounting software and client e-billing platforms.
• Strong Excel, reporting and analytical skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
• A practical approach to resolving queries, improving processes and developing colleagues.
