Achieving for Children is recruiting 1 Best Start Inclusion Health Visitor (NHS Band 6 equivalent) based in Maidenhead. The role focuses on improving access to health services for families with children aged 0-5 and those with SEND, working within the health visiting team and with the family hub.
You will provide expert guidance on SEND, supervise targeted nursery staff, and deliver direct family support while collaborating with education and community partners to achieve positive outcomes.

This is a new post created to support the government Best Start strategy with a focus on supporting families who find the health visiting service hard to access and those with children who have SEND or emerging SEND needs. The post will be based within the health visiting team but will also require close working with staff within the family hub.
The health Visiting service is provided by Achieving for Children, which is a social enterprise company also responsible for the provision of early help and social care services across RBWM. The health visiting team work out of the family hubs and have positive working relationships with our colleagues in the family hub and social care.

The Best Start Inclusion Health Visitor plays a pivotal role in championing equitable access to health services for families with children aged 0-5 years and ensuring that they receive the support needed to reach a good level of development by the end of reception.

The Health Visiting Service is responsible for delivering the Healthy Child Programme to families in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) and forms part of the Early Help Offer for the 0 to 19 age group. We are divided into 4 geographical teams across the borough, however health visiting remains working with 0 to 5 years old and parents-to-be. The Health Visitor will work as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) at NHS Band 6 equivalent level within the community as a member of the Health Visiting Team. The Health Visitor will offer a comprehensive public health nursing service in accordance with AfCs Health Visiting Standard Operational Procedures and the Public Health England Healthy Child Programme 0-5 years.
They will assess each child and family health needs, using the appropriate assessment and risk assessment tools and ensure that at each contact with a child an assessment of the health and developmental needs are documented. Actions will include the development and implementation of outcome focused care plans and evaluation of the care given and this is done in partnership with clients.
The Health Visitor will be required to assess child protection concerns in relation to children and young people and to discuss these concerns with colleagues and to take appropriate action in line with the RBWM Safeguarding Partnership guidance. This can include decisions to breach confidentiality where this is in the best interest of the child or young person. The Health Visitor will support the child, young person and family throughout this process and to ensure that they are kept informed at all times and actively participate in child protection supervision. The Health Visitor will develop and facilitate Health Visiting drop in clinics, health promotion activities and groups. They will provide care according to the available evidence of best practice and support the team in the development of evidence based practice. The post holder will establish effective working relationships with members of the Primary Health Care Team, Midwives, Children Centres, School Nurses, allied professionals and voluntary agencies to achieve the best health and wellbeing outcomes for families and children within the borough.
