A BEMS Electrical Installation Engineer at Imperium Building Systems Limited is responsible for carrying out electrical installations of building technology systems and ensuring compliance with safety standards. They work closely with project managers and other engineers to ensure electrical systems are installed according to design specifications. The job role encompasses the following responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities / Tasks
  • Conduct electrical installations for various projects according to technical drawings and specifications, including:
    • Installing metal and plastic cable containment systems.
    • Laying out cabling for power, controls, and networks.
    • Performing second fixing of equipment based on drawings and manufacturer's instructions.
    • Conducting point-to-point testing to verify correct installation of cabling systems.
  • Perform routine checks and maintenance on electrical systems to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Promptly troubleshoot and repair electrical issues to minimise downtime.
  • Assist in the testing and commissioning of systems.
  • Ensure all installations adhere to current industry standards, safety regulations, and Imperium’s quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Stay updated on new technologies and methods in electrical installation.
  • Help to supervise and train apprentices.
  • Perform all work safely, following risk assessments, method statements, and current industry safety guidelines.
Key Skills
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications for electrical systems. Skilled in installing various types of cable containment systems and cabling, including power, controls, and networks.
  • Practical Electrical Skills: Experience with second fixing of electrical equipment according to technical drawings and manufacturer guidelines. Proficient in point-to-point testing to verify the proper installation of cabling systems.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Capability to perform routine maintenance checks and swiftly diagnose and repair electrical faults to reduce system downtime.
  • System Testing and Commissioning: Knowledgeable in the principles of testing and commissioning electrical systems, ensuring they meet operational standards and project requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with current industry safety and quality standards for electrical installations (such as BS7671.) Understanding of how to ensure compliance with these standards to maintain safe working conditions and high-quality outcomes.
  • Quality Assurance: Commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in all aspects of installation and repair work, aligning with Imperium’s quality control protocols.
  • Record Keeping: Strong organisational skills with an emphasis on accurate and detailed record keeping of work performed and materials utilized.
  • Technological Literacy: Keen to stay updated on new technologies, tools, and methods in electrical installation to improve efficiency and effectiveness on the job.
  • Problem‑Solving Skills: Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, capable of troubleshooting issues as they arise and developing effective solutions.

Qualifications
  • Qualified Electrician with relevant certification (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3).
    • Have successfully completed a registered apprenticeship in the relevant occupational discipline, or undergone some equivalent method of training, and have had practical training in electrical installation work.
    • Or
    • Have obtained the full requirements, including all knowledge and performance assessments, of the Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Installation Buildings & Structures), the Level 3 NVQ diploma in Installing Electrotechnical systems and equipment (buildings, structures and the environment) or the Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification (Installation) Apprenticeship Standard (or approved equivalent), plus the industry assessment of occupational competence (the AM2.)
    • Or
    • Have completed the JIB Mature Candidate Assessment including the AM2, or the Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification including the AM2E.
  • Proven experience in electrical installation in a construction or building systems environment.
  • Strong understanding of wiring regulations and health & safety standards.
  • Good understanding of building technology systems such as BEMS, Lighting Controls, Networking and Audio‑Visual Systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
