Job description
Behaviour Teaching Assistant - Redbridge

95-115 per day Full-Time Term-Time Only Long-Term

Some young people walk into school carrying more than books - they carry pressure, frustration, worry, or things they don't quite have the words for. And sometimes that comes out as behaviour that looks "difficult," but really, it's a call for support.

We're working with a secondary school in Redbridge who are looking for someone who genuinely gets this - someone who doesn't take behaviour personally, who listens first, and who knows that trust is built slowly and with consistency.

This role would suit someone who wants to be that steady person a student can turn to when things feel overwhelming.

Your day-to-day might include:
  • Supporting pupils 1:1 or in smaller groups who find school life challenging
  • Being a calm presence during moments of frustration or dysregulation
  • Helping students reset, make better choices, and reconnect with learning
  • Working alongside the pastoral team, SENCO and class teachers to keep everyone on the same page
  • Encouraging confidence, responsibility and positive ways of coping
  • Celebrating the wins - even the small ones that others might miss
We'd love to speak to you if you:
  • Stay calm when others can't, and don't mind taking a breath before reacting
  • Have experience in youth work, mentoring, SEN, SEMH, PRUs or similar settings (not essential, but hugely beneficial)
  • Can balance empathy with clear boundaries
  • Believe that young people deserve adults who stick around and show up for them
  • Want to make a real difference to students who are often overlooked

This role isn't about "fixing" behaviour - it's about understanding it, supporting it, and helping students find better ways to express themselves.

If this sounds like something you'd thrive in, we'd love to hear from you.
