Behaviour Support Manager – Secondary School – Newport

Location: Newport
Job Title: Behaviour Support Manager
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: £110 – £120 per day
Start Date: ASAP – ongoing through the 2026 academic year

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting a Behaviour Support Manager to join one of our partner secondary schools in Newport. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of students who need extra guidance and care within the classroom environment.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Support Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining a calm, positive, and engaging learning environment. You will oversee a classroom in the absence of the teacher, ensure students stay focused on pre-set work, and implement effective behaviour management strategies to promote positive conduct.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise students in the absence of their regular teacher.
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies.
  • Distribute and monitor completion of pre-prepared learning materials.
  • Provide emotional and academic support to students as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with teaching staff and senior leadership to ensure a consistent approach to behaviour management.
  • Empathy & Understanding: Ability to build trust and support students with diverse needs.
  • Resilience: Confidence to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively.
  • Team Player: Strong communication and collaboration with teachers and staff.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to support pupils with a range of behavioural and learning needs.
  • Patience & Positivity: Commitment to creating a nurturing and encouraging atmosphere.
  • Behaviour Management Expertise: Knowledge of positive reinforcement and classroom management strategies.

Requirements

  • Enhanced Child-Only DBS Certificate (we can support your application).
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
  • Two professional references covering the last 24 months.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential – we welcome applicants with transferable skills or personal experience in similar environments.
