The successful candidate will work alongside teaching staff, pastoral colleagues and the wider leadership team to support pupils who may experience difficulties with behaviour, attendance, motivation or emotional regulation. The role is suited to someone who is patient, consistent and committed to helping young people make positive progress.

The Role

The Behaviour Mentor will provide targeted support to pupils who require additional guidance in managing their behaviour and engaging successfully with school life.

Responsibilities will include developing positive relationships with pupils, helping them understand behavioural expectations and encouraging them to take responsibility for their choices. The successful candidate will support pupils in lessons, during social times and in designated intervention sessions, depending on the needs of the school.

The role will involve helping pupils identify triggers for challenging behaviour, practise appropriate responses and develop strategies for managing frustration or conflict. The Behaviour Mentor will work with teachers and pastoral staff to reinforce school expectations and support consistent approaches to behaviour management.

Additional duties will include recording incidents, documenting interventions, sharing relevant information with appropriate colleagues and contributing to discussions about pupil progress. The successful candidate may also support reintegration following periods of exclusion or absence and help pupils develop routines that enable them to participate more effectively in lessons.

The Behaviour Mentor will need to respond calmly to challenging situations, maintain appropriate professional boundaries and follow the school's safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times.

Strong communication skills, patience and the ability to build trust while maintaining clear boundaries are essential. The successful candidate should be confident managing difficult conversations, encouraging positive choices and working collaboratively with teachers and pastoral teams.

A consistent, fair and practical approach is important, alongside the ability to remain calm under pressure. The candidate must understand the importance of safeguarding, confidentiality and accurate record-keeping.
