Job summary

A reputable education agency is seeking a passionate Behaviour Mentor to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs in a Preston-based school. This full-time role involves providing 1:1 and small group support, assisting teachers, and promoting positive emotional regulation among pupils. Ideal candidates will have experience working with children having SEMH requirements and a proactive approach to behaviour management. A qualification in care, education, or support is desirable but not mandatory.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH/behavioural needs.
  • Ability to manage behaviour in a calm and proactive manner.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH.

Start Date: Monday 15th December 2025

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: per week

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm

We are working with a welcoming and inclusive specialist school in Preston seeking dedicated a SEMH Mentor to join their supportive teams. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine impact on pupils who need encouragement, stability, and guidance to thrive in their learning and development.

SEMH Mentor Role and Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Assist the class teacher with lesson delivery, behaviour support, and interventions tailored to individual needs
  • Promote positive routines, emotional regulation, and resilience throughout the school day
  • Contribute to progress tracking and communicate effectively with staff and families
SEMH Mentor - What We're Looking For
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH/behavioural needs (in school, care, or youth work)
  • A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to managing behaviour
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • An understanding of SEMH and SEND strategies
  • A relevant qualification in support, care, or education is desirable but not essential
SEMH Mentor - To Be Eligible You Must
  • Hold the Right to Work in the UK
  • Have an enhanced child barred list DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply)
  • Be able to provide two professional references (child-related preferred)
