Behaviour and Learning Mentor – SEN School

Location: Gateshead
Pay: £88.92 – £95 per day (dependent on experience)
Contract: Full‑time / Long‑term / Supply basis
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

The Education Network is seeking a passionate and resilient Behaviour and Learning Mentor to join a welcoming SEN school in Gateshead. The school supports children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, autism and other additional learning needs. The role is ideal for someone who is calm under pressure, positive in attitude, and committed to helping pupils manage behaviour, develop confidence and re‑engage with learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with learners to encourage engagement and resilience.
  • Support emotional regulation and wellbeing through proactive strategies.
  • Work alongside teachers, pastoral staff and therapists to deliver tailored interventions.
  • Promote inclusion and help pupils develop social and academic skills.
Requirements
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people (education, youth work or care setting).
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • A patient, understanding and flexible approach.
  • Knowledge of SEMH or de‑escalation strategies (desirable but not essential).
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
