The Base Metals Trading team in London plays a pivotal role in Macquarie's global commodities business. The desk covers both financial and physical base metals markets, trading a diverse range of instruments including options, futures, and related contracts. We foster a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment, leveraging fundamental, quantitative, and technical analysis to identify trading opportunities and deliver consistent results. What role will you play?

As a Base Metals Options Trader, you will be part of a dynamic trading team, proactively identifying and capitalising on opportunities to grow the business. You will execute and manage options flow across major exchanges and OTC markets, overseeing positions and risk throughout the trade lifecycle. Building and maintaining relationships with brokers, counterparties, and other market participants is a key aspect of this role. You will analyse market trends, volatility, price movements, and supply and demand fundamentals across global base metals markets, contributing to the team's ongoing success.

What you offer
  • Minimum 5 years' experience trading base metals options, with a proven track record of positive P&L.
  • In‑depth understanding of financial base metals markets globally, including options, futures, and OTC structures.
  • Good risk appetite with a proven track record of deploying risk proactively and responsibly.
  • Deep knowledge of base metals fundamentals and the ability to translate that into price views and options strategies.
  • Strong entrepreneurial drive with the ability to independently source and structure new opportunities.
  • Demonstrated success in high‑pressure trading environments and collaborative team settings.
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, and communication skills, with an established network in the base metals trading community.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in additional languages is advantageous.
  • Technically skilled in Excel and market platforms such as Bloomberg.
