Are you passionate about health and making a difference to local communities? Groundwork London are seeking a Coordinator to shape and deliver the next phase of Barnet Health Champions.

Since 2019, Groundwork London has delivered the Barnet Health Champions project, in partnership with Barnet Public Health. Set up as a direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic, but now with a focus on wider health priorities, the Barnet Health Champions project has built a mutually beneficial communication system in Barnet that enables people to help their family, friends and other community members to understand key health messaging and to increase awareness of local services.

In 2026, Barnet Health Champions will transition into a new phase, focusing on supporting communities adversely affected by rising levels of fuel poverty and health inequalities in the borough, including properties in the west of the borough; disabled people/residents living with long‑term health conditions; African, Asian and Caribbean people; older adults; lone parents; low‑income households and refugee/migrant residents.

Working alongside the Groundwork Green Doctor service and delivery partner, Inclusion Barnet, our team of recruited Healthy Homes Champions (volunteers) will provide a holistic package of health support and energy efficiency guidance to Barnet residents. Healthy Homes Champions will receive specialist training and have access to a wide range of digital and printed assets on up-to-date health, wellbeing, and energy efficiency information to share with communities. Champions will be equipped to both disseminate information through their local networks (digitally and in person) and to attend community events alongside Groundwork.

The Barnet Health Champions Coordinator will be responsible for the planning, coordination, delivery and evaluation of the project.

Primary duties will include:
  • Healthy Homes Champion recruitment, induction, training and ongoing coordination/management
  • Work with partners to identify training and asset production in priority health topics impacted by fuel poverty and cold homes
  • Work with partners to plan and facilitate online and face‑to‑face information workshops, inductions, network meetings and focus groups with Healthy Homes Champions
  • Identify and attend targeted events, workshops and networks to attend with Healthy Homes Champions, focusing on priority community engagement

This role will adopt flexible hours, to attend evening workshops (support from colleagues available). The postholder will be supported to complete training in ‘fuel poverty awareness’ and ‘fuel poverty and health.’
