About Us
We are opening a brand-new Banking Hub in Nelson, Lancashire as part of the Post Office’s growing network of high‑street Banking Hubs operated in partnership with major banks. The hub will deliver everyday banking services including deposits, withdrawals, bill payments, account enquiries, in a friendly, community‑facing environment. The role offers the chance to join an important service that brings accessible banking to the local area.
Role Summary
As a Cashier in the Banking Hub you will be one of the first points of contact for customers. You’ll ensure accurate and efficient processing of transactions, maintain high standards of customer service, and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment. You will work closely with the wider team to support the smooth operation of the hub and deliver an excellent experience to our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist customers visiting the hub; provide a friendly, professional welcome.
- Operate the counter: cash withdrawals, cash deposits, cheque deposits, balance enquiries, bill payments.
- Ensure accuracy in cash handling: counting, reconciling, issuing receipts, balancing at end of shift.
- Maintain compliance with cash security procedures, anti‑money‑laundering guidelines, data protection and safeguarding vulnerable customers.
- Keep the service area tidy, organised and customer‑ready; restock supplies as needed.
- Communicate clearly with customers (face‑to‑face, phone or other channels) and refer to specialist support when required.
- Work flexibly around agreed hours; in the part time role you will work to a pre‑agreed schedule and may cover occasional extra shifts.

- Proven experience in customer service - you enjoy helping people and delivering a friendly, reliable service.
- Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail, especially in a cash‑handling environment.

Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in banking, financial services or post-office/counter roles.
- Cash‑handling or transaction processing experience.
- Familiarity with banking products and services.
- Experience working with vulnerable customers or in a community‑facing environment.

Working Hours & Location
- The hub will operate Monday to Friday during core high‑street hours (typically 9:00‑17:00) though actual hours and shift pattern will be confirmed on successful appointment.
- Full‑time: standard weekly hours across the working week; some flexibility may be required for peak times.
- Part‑time: agreed weekly hours (approx 12‑30 hrs) to match hub needs; may include occasional additional shifts.
- Location: Nelson, Lancashire - ideally candidates who can commute locally or residing within reasonable travel distance.
