Job summary

The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Bank Theatre Practitioner to join our dedicated Theatre team in a highly specialist area. Prior theatre experience is essential and you must be able to work across anaesthetic and recovery.

The successful candidate will deliver safe, high‑quality patient‑focused care, manage complex workloads, maintain competencies through mandatory training and contribute to excellent patient experiences at RJAH in Oswestry.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Operating Department Practice (or equivalent) or RGN with anaesthetic qualification.
• Ability to work across anaesthetics and recovery.
• ODP/RGN with anaesthetic or recovery experience.
• Experience in the theatre environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage workload in a highly specialist area with limited supervision.
• Demonstrate complex communication within the Unit and with the MDT.
• Ensure Health and Safety of staff, patients and visitors; report incidents.
• Provide accurate theatre activity data using manual and computerised systems.
• Ensure safe quality care within the Unit per Trust policies.
• Attend mandatory annual training (Fire, Manual Handling, CPR, etc.).
• Understand risk management and participate in risk analysis.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of safe, high quality patient focused care within their Team or area of responsibility and will be responsible for ensuring that all resources within that area are used to optimum effect, ensuring the highest quality patient care standards.

Job responsibilities

• Manage own workload in a designated highly specialist area without supervision as appropriate using all forms of knowledge, skills and experience required in order to be able to undertake the duties competently.
• To demonstrate a complex level of communication and relationship skills promoting and maintaining effective liaison throughout the Unit team and with the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Ensure the Health and Safety of all staff, patients and visitors. Reporting all incidents/accidents/near misses to the team leader. Document and monitor the safe use of equipment and economic use of supplies.
• Provide accurate and timely collection and submission of appropriate Theatre activity data, using appropriate manual and computerised systems.
• To ensure safe quality care is provided for patients within the Unit as Trust and Unit policy.
• To maintain an understanding of and adhere to all Trust and Unit policies and procedures and ensure attendance of mandatory annual training e.g. Fire, Manual Handling, CPR etc.
• To have an understanding of Risk Management and to participate in the identification/analysis of risk.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

• Diploma in Operating Department Practice (or equivalent ) or RGN with relevant Anaesthetic Qualification; if applicable
• The ability to work between anaesthetics and recovery

Experience

• ODP / RGN with Anaesthetic / Recovery experience
• Experience in the theatre environment

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Knowledge (including specialist or technical knowledge required)

• Prepared to update orthopaedic knowledge and undertake further professional education
