Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to join the team on a bank basis at HMP Lancaster Farms, a Category C male prison located on the outskirts of Lancaster. HMP Lancaster Farms offers a fast‑paced, unique and rewarding environment to learn and develop.

Join the Recovery Team and empower those who wish to change their behaviour to promote health and well‑being through recovery from drugs and alcohol. This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients and delivering outstanding care.

Hours: Bank position, shifts 8 am‑4 pm Monday‑Friday. Salary: £15.80 per hour. How we support you: Bespoke induction, including the Introducing Health in Justice training course; competency framework; regional and national career development opportunities; our bespoke Learning Management System to address your learning needs; support from the wider team.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Deliver outstanding care to psychosocial patients, seeking out, listening to, and acting on their feedback – ensuring that care is personalised and tailored to the individual.
  • Manage a caseload of patients with varying needs, including substance misuse, mental health, trauma, etc.
  • Provide a programme of psychosocial interventions and comprehensive assessments.
  • Provide information and advice on substance misuse, alcohol, smoking cessation, blood‑borne viruses and safe sex practices.
  • Prepare patients for release and transfer.
  • Deliver care on a 1‑1 basis as well as group sessions.
  • Assist the healthcare team across other pathways as needed, including second signing.

Our new Substance Misuse Recovery Worker will:

  • Have experience within substance misuse, ideally in a prison/secure environment and within a Recovery Worker/Practitioner role.
  • Have experience working within the substance misuse multi‑disciplinary framework, which includes housing, social care, health care and mental health pathways.
  • Have a flexible approach and excellent communication skills.
  • Have a non‑judgemental and compassionate approach.
