Job description
Overview

We are looking for a Sterile Services Technician to join us to work on a Bank contract, as and when site needs hours covered. You will be a vital member of the team, working to support our Sterile Services Department Manager, in the provision of a safe and effective decontamination and sterile supplies service to all departments within the hospital.

This will include ensuring that every medical device is prepared fit for the purpose prior to patient use and undertaking tasks involved with the decontamination process i.e. cleaning, checking, packing, assembling, sterilising and distribution of medical devices. You will be accountable for the reprocessing of reusable medical devices including washing, disinfecting and the sterilising of theatre equipment. You will help to maintain supplies inventories and stock levels, keeping accurate records maintained on our computer system tracking various theatre items and instruments. This will include daily validation testing and recording. You will monitor all procedures and report malfunctions of sterilisers and washer-disinfectors to the Sterile Services Lead and record the details on forms. You will participate in conducting planned audits, ensuring equipment is correctly labelled, available as required and that equipment leaving the centre is correctly documented. You will need to be focused in your work as concentration is required at all times during the decontamination and packing process. Care is required when dealing with contaminated sets due to the possibility of sharps being left on trays, exposing you to body fluids when working in the decontamination area.

Hours based on two shift patterns: Early - 07:00 to 15:00; Late - 11:00 to 19:00.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out decontamination and packing processes and reprocessing of reusable medical devices (washing, disinfecting, sterilising) as required.

  • Participate in planned audits to verify correct labelling, availability of equipment, and proper documentation for equipment leaving the centre.
  • Maintain focus and concentration throughout decontamination and packing tasks; handle contaminated sets with care.
  • Work in a healthcare/surgical decontamination environment with attention to safety and sharps handling.
