This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced paediatric dietitian at a band 6 level, however for the right candidate we would be able to offer it as a band 5 post. The post can be offered as a secondment.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic evidence‑based evolving team. The successful candidate will work within the paediatric service providing dietary advice across inpatient, outpatient and community settings and be supported by dietetic and assistant colleagues. There is potential for the successful applicant to take a lead in student training

Main Duties of the job
  • To act as specialist clinician for the paediatric service, supporting the clinical lead/s with evolving and embedding best practice into the clinical area.
  • To manage own specialist caseload in this area. This may include advising the MDT on the most appropriate form of nutritional management for children and cover for children's ward/special care baby unit/childrens day unit, educational establishments for children with additional learning needs and general/specialist Paediatric Clinics on the award winning Acre mill site as required. There is potential for post holder to be the lead paediatric dietitian for IBD depending on their previous experience. The post will work closely with the enteral feed company nurse to support children on home enteral feeds in the community.
  • Work autonomously within Trust policies and professional practice, maintaining accurate and comprehensive up to date records.
  • To carry out specialist assessment and treatment of children in a variety of settings with the aim of preventing hospital admissions and/or facilitating safe and timely discharges and transfer of care.
  • Determine a clinical diagnosis, develop, deliver, implement, evaluate and modify individualised treatment programmes and/or provide specialist advice, ensuring appropriate pathways of care and communication via liaison and referral to other agencies as required.

Job Description / Responsibilities

Clinical areas will include a home enteral feeding caseload with a diverse range of conditions, general paediatric in and out patients, including cow's milk protein allergy, multiple allergies, faltering growth, IBD, coeliac disease, selective eating and nutritional health for paediatrics.

You will require good communication and multi‑disciplinary team working skills.

The dietetic department is fully committed to CPD and clinical supervision.

As we take A, B and C students from Leeds Beckett University, the post holder will also be expected to take an active role in supporting our student training programme and has potential to be the student lead.

Qualifications / Training – Essential
  • Relevant degree/ diploma
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Behavioural change training/motivational interviewing skills
  • Evidence of up to date best practice in specialism, self directed and reflective practice
  • Clinical supervisory skills training and regular involvement in student training and assessment
Desirable
  • Studied at Masters level or equivalent
  • Member of Professional Body
  • Successful completion of post graduate paediatric training e.g. BDA paediatric modules (or willing to complete)
Knowledge, Experience & Expertise – Essential
  • Recent advanced post graduate experience to assess and treat in a wide range of areas of nutritional support in the NHS
  • Sound knowledge of clinical dietetics including anthropometric measurement, biochemical interpretation and devising complex nutritional care plans

  • Previous experience working at a Band 6 level
  • Recent experience of paediatric dietetics
