Reports To: Physiotherapy Clinical Team Lead
Job Summary:
As a Senior Physiotherapist, you will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality care to our patients undergoing rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in orthopaedic rehabilitation, and hydrotherapy, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and satisfaction. Experience of post-surgery care in gynaecology, colorectal, urology, breast, care of the elderly, respiratory, and general medicine is highly advantageous.
Key Duties:
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients admitted to the inpatient unit, utilising appropriate physiotherapy techniques and tools to evaluate physical function, mobility, strength, and range of motion.
- Interpret assessment findings to develop individualised treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs and goals.
- Design and implement evidence-based physiotherapy interventions to optimise patient outcomes.
- Provide education and guidance to patients and their families on home exercise programmes and self-management strategies to support continuity of care post-discharge.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries following departmental and regulatory standards.
- Engage in reflective practice and seek feedback from peers and supervisors to enhance clinical skills and performance.
Role Responsibilities:
Maintain a Strong Understanding of the Surgical Procedures performed and the Post-Surgical Physiotherapy Protocols for Each
- Collaborate closely with the surgeons and interdisciplinary team to ensure holistic patient care is delivered in line with hospital and surgical protocols.
- Ensure continuity of care and rehabilitation progress for patients as inpatients and provide education on onwards recovery post-discharge.
Maintain Skills within the Specialties Respiratory, Neurology, General Medicine, and Care of the Elderly
- Be confident in providing physiotherapy intervention for patients admitted via medical pathway or with complex medical histories.
- Maintain competency in general respiratory physiotherapy (we do not have a critical care).
Hydrotherapy Delivery:
- Identify the appropriate inpatients and complete Risk Assessments before referring the patients onwards to the Weekday Team / Outpatient Team (there is no hydrotherapy service at weekends and on Bank Holidays).
- Stay uptodate with hydrotherapy pool evacuation training provided in house.
- Enhance patient well‑being and accelerate rehabilitation progress, promoting faster recovery and improved quality of life.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Foster effective communication and collaboration with patients, their families, and members of the healthcare team to ensure coordinated care delivery and optimal patient outcomes.
- Actively participate in multidisciplinary meetings, providing valuable insights and recommendations.
- Facilitate seamless care transitions, improve patient satisfaction, and enhance overall treatment outcomes.
Documentation and Record‑Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date patient records, documenting assessments, treatment plans, interventions, and progress notes following hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Ensure continuity of care, facilitate effective communication among healthcare providers, and support quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure strict confidentiality is maintained in line with organisational and national GDPR standards.
Professional Development:
- Stay abreast of advancements in physiotherapy practice through continued education, training, and professional development activities.
- Contribute to the advancement of physiotherapy practice through participation in research, quality improvement initiatives, and professional organisations.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy.
- HCPC registration and CSP membership.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong clinical reasoning and decision‑making abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.
