Bank Midwifery – Ability to Deliver Holistic Care Within a Flexible Working Pattern

Job summary

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is looking to expand their Midwifery bank workforce and is looking for talented, caring, enthusiastic and experienced band 5/6 Midwives to join our Bank workforce across both acute and community sites to contribute to the delivery of safe, equitable, and personalised maternal and neonatal care within the Children, Young People and Families Services Directorate.

Working on the bank offers flexibility and shifts are available on both maternity units and in a variety of areas. A period of orientation will be offered and access to the maternity in-house training programme. You will work alongside midwives and support workers committed to delivering excellent patient experience.

You are required to hold a professional NMC registration in Midwifery to work as part of the Multi-professional team providing a high standard of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal midwifery care to women and their families within the integrated maternity service.

Main duties of the job

As a Bank Midwife, you will:

  • Deliver holistic care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively within acute and community settings.
  • Act as a role model and provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to junior staff and students.
  • Promote informed choice and advocate for women/birthing people.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and complex clinical situations.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to service development and quality assurance.

Person Specification

Qualifications – Essential

  • Midwifery NMC registration
  • Educated to Diploma/degree level or above
  • Completed preceptorship development programme with post qualification experience.
  • Mentor/assessor training qualification
  • Safeguarding (Level 3) adults and children’s training

Qualifications – Desirable

  • Neonatal Life Support / Neonatal and Infant Physical Examination qualification (NIPE) or working towards

Experience – Essential

  • Experience of assist instrumental births
  • Knowledge and experience to deal appropriately with obstetric emergencies in the absence of medical staff

Additional Criteria – Essential

  • Ability to cope within a stressful environment and with emotional women/birthing people and their families and supporters on a regular basis
  • Excellent communication skills on the telephone, via email, face to face and in written correspondence
  • Is willing to work in all areas – Community and Hospital
  • UK driving licence and access to car
