Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Bank Mental Health Nurse to join our Inpatients team at HMP Thameside, a Category‐B Prison located in Greenwich, South‐East London. Our 18-bed unit provides 24‑hour care to patients with a mix of mental and physical health needs. You will work with a multi‑disciplinary team that supports you and helps you succeed.

Hours – Monday to Sunday, Days: 07:00‑19:30, Nights: 19:00‑07:30.

Responsibilities
  • Work within a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver a nurse‑led service and prevent hospital admissions.
  • Undertake medication rounds, dispense controlled medication, attend emergency response situations, assess patients, and undertake reception screening.
  • Use your skills and knowledge to deliver nurse‑led clinics to your patient group whilst being supported by a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Contribute to our nursing strategy and vision by providing outstanding evidence‑based care to our patients, seeking out, listening to, and acting on their feedback so that care is personalized and informed by what matters to them.
  • Deliver non‑judgmental care that makes a real difference, as defined throughout our bespoke Health in Justice competency framework.
Qualifications & Experience
  • NMC Registered Mental Health Nurse.
  • Experience of the complexities of multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency working.
  • A non‑judgmental and compassionate approach.
  • Understanding of mental health policy including clinical governance, the quality and outcomes framework, and national standards such as NICE.
  • Experience in a hospital, community or prison environment (ideal but not essential).

This is a bank role and you will receive an hourly rate of £26.05 (weekdays) and £28.12 (nights & weekends).
