Job description
Materials Management Operative

The Materials Management Operative is a customer‑facing role requiring a strong customer service work ethic and a commitment to being proactive and positive. The role involves working in a team, operating the Trust's goods in‑wards / out‑wards system to deliver goods to wards and departments, assisting customers who come to the Main Stores, checking goods received against delivery documents, and picking and packing supplies in line with requisitions from services within the Trust. The post holder must be physically fit.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Receipting and distribution of all goods ordered.
  • Reviewing stock levels and managing inventory in line with clinical activity, scanning, ordering and putting away stock as per the schedule.
  • Providing assistance to customers during goods inspection and requisition fulfilment.
  • Collaborating with ward and service managers, procurement specialists, contracts and accounts teams, and external suppliers and logistics partners.

The role requires daily contact with ward and service managers and staff within the hospital, including Procurement – Clinical Specialists, Contracts Team, Customer Services Divisional team engagement, Ward review meetings, Health & Safety, Finance – e‑Financials Systems Team, Accounts Payable, Facilities, Estates and external NHS logistics teams. The post holder will also liaise with suppliers (including couriers) and other public services.
