A healthcare service provider in the UK is looking for a Catering Assistant to provide food service in patient areas, ensuring high hygiene standards and quality meals. Responsibilities include assisting in kitchen work, cleaning, and participating in meal delivery. Ideal candidates should have experience in catering and knowledge of food safety regulations. This is a full-time role with a salary of £24,833 per annum.
The post-holder will be required to provide catering and food service within all patient areas, in accordance with the agreed Catering and Nutritional Policy, as well as the Food Safety Regulations and Food Hygiene Regulations. The post holder will be responsible along with others on a rostered basis to assist with the delivery of patient services, at ward and department level. The post holder may provide hospitality service to clinics and other areas.
In this role, you'll be supporting the catering service, helping to make sure patients, staff and visitors receive safe, high‑quality meals every day. You'll be involved in all aspects of kitchen work, including general cleaning of floors, walls, work surfaces and equipment, following the agreed cleaning schedules. You'll also operate the dishwasher and take responsibility for washing larger items in the pan‑wash area. You'll help with basic food preparation such as vegetables, salads, sandwiches and simple finger foods. Daily, weekly and periodic cleaning tasks are part of the routine, and it's important to follow all colour‑coding systems to maintain hygiene standards. Before each meal service, you'll help make sure there is enough cutlery, crockery, utensils and condiments so everything runs smoothly.
Part of the job involves receiving deliveries of food stores and cleaning materials, checking everything is correct and storing items safely in line with our operational policies. You'll also take part in the patient meal service using the conveyor belt system, making sure portion sizes are correct and that meals are accurate. You'll need to be aware of special dietary needs and ensure these requests are always followed.
