An exciting opportunity for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion sections of Blood Sciences at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. The role offers full training and future development opportunities for the right candidates.

The post is based at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital but the successful candidate will work at our laboratory in Poole on rotation. The laboratory is fully UKAS accredited and a registered IBMS accredited training facility.

The successful candidate will regularly rotate through all sections of the Haematology & Blood Transfusion department and must participate in the 24/7 shift system.

Main Duties
  • Perform routine and specialised haematology, coagulation and transfusion testing.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.
  • Support clinical trials and patient blood management initiatives.
  • Document and report laboratory results in accordance with SOPs.
Qualifications
  • BSc or MSc in Biomedical Science.
  • Registration with the HCPC.
  • IBMS specialist portfolio or proven equivalent experience at Band 6 level.
  • Evidence of CPD at interview.
Experience
  • Working experience in Haematology, Coagulation and Transfusion.
  • Experience in a UKAS ISO 15189 or MHRA approved laboratory.
  • Experience working shifts over a 24/7 period.
Technical Skills and Competencies
  • Interpretive skills at bench level.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of common IT software.
  • Familiarity with database and spreadsheet software.
  • Familiarity with Winpath and other quality management software.
Knowledge
