Job description

This is a unique opportunity to be part of Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust and to work at some of the largest prisons in the UK. You will assist us to provide excellent primary care and emergency response within the prison environment. Offenders are a challenging population group to work with and they often have complex healthcare needs. Offenders often have chaotic lives in the community and a history of poor engagement with community healthcare services. With high rates of substance misuse and mental health problems, this is a real chance to make a difference.

As part of the role you will be required to work at least two days in a 6‑week period to have supervision, talks with colleagues, attend team meetings etc. You will provide high quality emergency care and minor injury treatment to patients with both primary care and acute care needs in a prison setting by planning an active part in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient's care. Please note: This is an opportunity to join our Bank and work on an "as and when required" basis. The availability of Bank work cannot be guaranteed. The duration of each Bank booking varies.

Main duties of the job: We have 7 prisons in Kent – HMP Elmley, HMP Swaleside and HMP Standford Hill are all located on the Isle of Sheppey. HMP Rochester, HMP Cookham Wood, HMP Maidstone and HMP East Sutton Park are in West Kent. As an Advanced Emergency Care Practitioner (AECP) / Paramedic you will deliver high quality care, ensuring standards are consistently high. You will do this by being competent and having the knowledge to deliver comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
