Job summary

The post involves acting as professional lead for post-mortem procedures, HTA compliance, and cross-team collaboration across Histopathology and Bereavement services. This position offers flexibility and opportunities to broaden professional networks within the Trust.

Qualifications

• Degree in Anatomical Pathology Technology or related healthcare discipline
• Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology (DAPT) or equivalent mortuary qualification
• Postgraduate leadership/management development
• Membership in a relevant professional body (IAPT) desirable

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the operational delivery of Mortuary Services, ensuring safe, effective, and responsive services across the Trust.
• Serve as the Trust’s professional lead, advising on post-mortem procedures, deceased patient management, and HTA compliance.
• Maintain full compliance with HTA licensing standards, national guidance, and NHS governance frameworks.
• Oversee mortuary quality management systems, including audits, inspections, incident investigations, and continuous improvement programmes.

Qualifications:

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Anatomical Pathology Technology, Biomedical Science, or a related healthcare discipline.
• Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology DAPT or equivalent recognised mortuary qualification.
• Evidence of postgraduate leadership or management development.
• Membership of a relevant professional body such as the Institute of Anatomical Pathology Technology IAPT is desirable.

Experience:

• Significant senior-level experience within an NHS or accredited mortuary environment.
• Proven experience in leading mortuary services within a complex healthcare organisation.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams including Histopathology, Coroners, Bereavement Services, and external partner organisations.
