A valuable opportunity has become available at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospital NHS Trust for a Matron within the Surgical and Urology wards.

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated surgical nurse with significant experience in surgery and urology within an acute care setting.

This is a key leadership role within the Surgical Division, providing visible, compassionate, inclusive and proactive leadership across our surgical and urology wards ensuring the highest standards of care with a strong emphasis on quality and safety.

Main duties of the job

The role of the matron is to provide high quality, safe and supportive care. The matron will not only be a clinical expert but will also have commitments to the education and training of the multi-disciplinary team and to research and audit projects.

Job responsibilities

You will also establish and oversee efficient clinical and business systems to support the division so that we can deliver an efficient and professional clinical service to the trust. One of the primary objectives of your role will be to maintain and improve the quality & safety objectives for your services by ensuring good governance. A strong customer service attitude and collaborative approach is key.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications

• Appropriate Registered Practitioner
• Evidence of post Registration development at Degree level.
• Practice assessor or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Masters' degree or working towards.

Knowledge

• Experience at Band 7 or equivalent
• Current knowledge of clinical practice in an acute setting.
• Experience of working in partnership with multi‑disciplinary team members.
• Implementing complex change in a clinical setting.
• Knowledge of current developments in nursing and the NHS.
• Developing clinical staff.
• Budget management
• Knowledge of the commissioning cycle as it applies to the specialty.
• Knowledge of the developments within the integrated care system and how this might impact the role.

Experience

• Experience and knowledge of clinical practice in an acute setting in general surgery and urology.
• Appropriate operational experience
• Experience in influencing internal/external activities
• Experience across the scope of the Matron's ten key roles with potential to do all
• Experience of working across networks
