Job description

The Cancer CNS is a key worker role. The CNS addresses patients’ health concerns and works to promote their health and wellbeing. Using their skills and expertise in cancer care, the CNS provides physical and emotional support to their patients, coordinates their care services, and informs and advises them on clinical and practical issues associated with their illness. This leads to a more positive outcome for patients.

The post will incorporate the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role dimensions of expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management and research.

Responsibilities

Upper Gastro-Intestinal Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist will be required to:

  • Assist in the provision of professional and clinical leadership and expertise in the care of the patient with cancer, acting as a resource to provide information and support to patients, carers and staff.
  • Liaise effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to achieve a seamless specialist service.
  • Deliver the personalised care agenda for this group of patients.
  • Ensure that every patient has a plan of care and liaise with other teams to ensure that this is not compromised.
  • Lead and contribute to the creation of patient information.
  • Provide formal and informal training and education within specialist area.
  • Lead and contribute to the development of clinical guidelines and policies both internally and externally.
  • Attend the Cancer CNS Community of Practice.
  • Support health and wellbeing events and initiatives to support patients to live with their disease.
