An exciting opportunity has become available at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospital NHS Trust to join our team as a Trauma Rehabilitation Co-ordinator.

The successful candidate will work closely with medical, nursing and therapy colleagues to coordinate the effective pathways of care for Major Trauma patients in one of the busiest trauma units in the region.

We are looking for an experienced Band 6 or Band 7 Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist or Registered Nurse to join the team on a fixed term basis for 8 months.

It is a part time role, working 2 or 3 days a week, preferably with Friday as one of the working days but there is some flexibility with this for the right candidate. Weekend working on a Saturday is a requirement for the role which is on a rota basis with a maximum 1:4 Saturdays worked.

Main duties of the job

As a Trauma Coordinator, you will be working closely with colleagues to identify Major Trauma patients and be responsible for providing advice and support on their management and ongoing care, regardless of which speciality they are under.

Where patients have complex needs you will support the team to coordinate their discharge, including facilitating transfer to an appropriate rehabilitation setting. You will also provide clinical support to these patients, promoting rehabilitation and education.

You will also be supporting individuals and their relatives through the trauma pathway at Watford General Hospital. You will act as a single point of contact for liaison with Major Trauma Centres and other Trauma Units and support repatriations, gaining thorough handover of patient status.

You will need to be confident and proactive in your communication skills and caseload management. You will actively participate in Trauma Network meetings, participate in reviews and trust committees, lead local audit and develop and review procedures, guidelines and protocols.

You will be responsible for ensuring requirements as set out by TARN (Trauma and Rehabilitation Network) are being met through regular training and updates of the therapy and nursing team. The successful candidate will also be supported by receiving regular supervision and there are also opportunities for course funding.
