We have an opportunity for a motivated and experienced Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) to join our dynamic Respiratory, Surgery & Critical Care Therapy Team at Barnet Hospital - part of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

Service Areas
  • Surgery (including Head & Neck cancer)
  • Acute Respiratory Care (including Non-Invasive Ventilation) across the Enhanced Care Unit and ward
  • Critical Care
  • Acute cardiology
  • Acute Medicine
  • Intensive Care MDT Follow Up Clinic

In addition to Cardiorespiratory Outpatients (Physiotherapists) and support to the outpatient instrumental service (SLT).

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the continuing development of a highly specialist therapy service, providing expert assessment, diagnosis and treatment for those adult patients within the above areas who have acquired communication and swallowing difficulties. This may be in inpatient or outpatient settings.

They will have experience in critical care and complex tracheostomy weaning. They will take a leadership role within the hospital Tracheostomy Ward Round and associated training. They will have excellent leadership skills in order to support more junior members of staff and to deputise for the clinical lead(s) and critical care clinical specialist SLT when required. They will provide and demonstrate specialist skills for interpretative assessment techniques and interventions (e.g. FEES, Videofluoroscopy, Phonetic Transcription and Stroboscopy). They will also take an active role in the SLT bank holiday rota.
