Job description

Job Title: Band 7 Sonographer – Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Location: West Middlesex University Hospital, Isleworth; Trust: Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Contract Type: Locum. Start Date: ASAP. Days: Monday–Wednesday preferred. Hours: Full or Part‑Time considered. Pay Rate: NHSE Capped Rate. Role Type: On‑site. Gender Requirement: Female (due to clinical sensitivities).

Role Overview

An advanced practitioner role requiring autonomy, excellent clinical judgement and strong reporting skills, supporting a busy NHS ultrasound department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out a wide range of obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound scans.
  • Perform full obstetric scans: dating, growth, anomaly, nuchal translucency, twins and high‑risk cases.
  • Undertake gynaecology scans including routine, urgent and 2WW.
  • Carry out Doppler examinations: umbilical artery, MCA, uterine artery.
  • Produce high‑quality diagnostic reports and contribute to patient management.
  • Support service delivery and rota requirements as required.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit and CPD activity.
  • Work autonomously in a fast‑paced NHS department with minimal supervision.
Essential Criteria
  • HCPC registered.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound / DMU.
  • NT accredited.
  • Proven experience in obstetrics & gynaecology scanning.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Strong communication and patient‑care skills.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience with NHS scanning systems (RIS / PACS).
  • Experience supporting students or junior staff.
  • Availability Mon–Wed.
