Job summary

A community healthcare organization in Birmingham seeks a motivated and innovative dietitian to join their specialist learning disability service. The role includes providing clinical supervision, managing a clinical caseload, and participating in multidisciplinary teamwork. An opportunity has arisen for a motivated, innovative dietitian with excellent communication, organisation and team working skills, to join a team of dietitians working as part of a Specialist Learning Disability Community Dietetic service.

You will join a growing team of dietitians, dietetic assistant practitioners, nutrition nurses and apprentices. We are looking for an experienced dietitian with a strong interest in the areas of nutrition support, enteral feeding and weight management.

Main duties of the job

You will provide clinical supervision and day to day management and support to dietetic colleagues. You will hold a specialist clinical caseload and recent relevant experience in either learning disabilities or mental health is therefore essential.

You will fully participate in the training of B and C Placement student dietitians and dietetic apprentices.

You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams in the specialist service areas. You will have a drive to develop yourself and others to improve patient care and will seek opportunities to lead on service improvement and deliver the values of Birmingham Community Health Care Trust

Applicants must be HCPC registered dietitians, who have obtained relevant clinical dietetic experience and who are car drivers with access to a car to meet the requirement for regular travel across organisational sites (reasonable adjustments will be considered)

Job responsibilities

To provide highly specialist clinical assessment and on-going Dietetic management of adults with learning disabilities.

To provide therapeutic Dietetic care to clients in a range of venues across the City.

To act as a source of clinical expertise/advice and guidance.

To raise nutritional awareness and promote the benefits of Nutrition and Dietetic services.

To take responsibility and a leadership role in supporting the service delivery and clinical practice.

Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
  • Registered Dietitian with current HCPC registration
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Degree or equivalent in Dietetics
  • Post graduate training or equivalent relevant experience within the field of Dietetics and LD
Skills/knowledge
  • Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge and practical application of current evidence based practice
Experience
  • Extensive experience of working within a community learning disability service.
  • Experience in nutritional support and weight management.
  • Experience of developing, implementing and evaluating projects and audits.
  • Experience of MDT working.
  • Experience of supervising staff.
