About the role
We’re seeking an experienced and forward‑thinking software developer to shape the future of digital healthcare. As a Database Software Developer Specialist, you will design, develop and support mission‑critical applications, including our next‑generation electronic Patient Record (ePR) system, and deliver iOS applications using Swift to empower clinicians with cutting‑edge mobile tools.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and support robust, secure, and user‑friendly applications for desktop, web and mobile platforms, including iOS/Swift for the ePR system.
- Analyse requirements from clinical, non‑clinical and stakeholder teams and translate them into innovative software solutions.
- Champion best practices in software engineering: automated testing, code reviews, continuous improvement and Agile/DevOps processes.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality digital services.
- Support and enhance existing applications, ensuring reliability, security and performance.
- Develop and maintain software for desktop, web and mobile platforms, applying strong programming skills in C#, .NET, SQL, and Swift.
- Conduct rigorous QA/UAT, including writing, executing automated unit tests and participating in user acceptance testing.
- Review code and perform peer‑reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and Trust standards.
- Provide expert technical support, consultancy and training to management, staff and customers, with occasional out‑of‑hours rota participation.
- Estimate, plan and deliver projects and change requests within agreed timescales and quality criteria.
- Present solutions to stakeholders – building wireframes, prototypes and demonstrations to refine requirements.
- Proactively identify and resolve technical issues, proposing improvements to team processes and technologies.
- Maintain confidentiality and data security in line with GDPR, NHS and Trust policies.
- Contribute to the development of IT policies, standards and guidelines to support continuous improvement and innovation.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in software development, including Visual Studio, C#, .NET, SQL and web technologies.
- Strong experience in iOS application development using Swift.
- Knowledge of database management, REST APIs and modern development tools.
- Experience with Agile and/or Waterfall project methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills with a collaborative, problem‑solving mindset.
- A degree in Computer Science, Business IT or equivalent industry experience.
- Advanced knowledge of C#, .NET, SQL and Swift (iOS).
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, sharing knowledge with colleagues.
