Job description
Overview

To work at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as Deputy Lead Radiographer for MRI. The service provides an MRI service and is located within the radiology department at Hillingdon Hospital.

The post holder will be an effective member of the Radiology team, act as a role model for radiographic staff, provide clinical leadership and undertake managerial responsibilities while maintaining quality standards.

Service Context and Hours

The Radiology Service at Hillingdon Hospital operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with core hours between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday. The MRI service operates 8am to 5pm every day, excluding weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Co-ordinate and communicate effectively with the Modality Lead Radiographers.
  • Assist the Lead Radiographer with development of protocols and procedures in MRI.
  • Support the development of radiographer vetting.
  • Represent MRI as part of a multi-professional team and support work of relevant clinical networks.
  • Relate to all manner of patients with care, compassion and confidentiality.
  • Achieve and maintain skills in information technology relevant to imaging.
  • Use the departmental radiology information systems to register patients, check patient results and generate patient appointments.
  • Manage and support training of radiographers, clinical imaging assistants and students in MRI.
  • Check patient safety and implant conditions, where applicable, prior to scanning.
  • Contribute to the development of the Radiology service provision by collecting and evaluating activity, demand and capacity data.
  • Assess, obtain valid informed consent, and work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  • Assess and manage clinical risk within own patient caseload and within the specialty; advise colleagues on risk management.
  • Provide specialist advice to colleagues in other clinical areas and to other healthcare professionals.
  • Establish, lead and/or be an active member of training sessions, staff meetings and mandatory training as required.
  • Supervise and educate junior Radiographers and senior Radiographers; ensure line-managed staff attend mandatory training and monitor attendance.
  • Disseminate information and ensure practice is based on best available evidence.
  • Oversee the clinical training of radiographers undertaking MRI training and maintain contact with professional and training organisations such as imaging academies.
  • Maintain high ethical and professional standards in attitude to work.

Safety, Quality and Compliance

To be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the MRI department; monitor skill mix of radiographic and support staff to meet service needs; investigate, record and report incidents as necessary; address complaints, incidents, accidents and grievances in accordance with departmental and Trust procedures; maintain effective communication with the MRI Safety Expert (MRSE); ensure implant details are checked for each patient to ensure safety.
