Job description
Role Overview

The post holder will provide education and supervision to student nurses or registered nurses, training them in triaging and handling telephone messages. They will oversee day‑to‑day activity of the UCB/SPA in the absence of the Service Manager/Operational Manager, escalating concerns to the Manager on call. The role is non‑managerial and budget‑free. The post holder will work in line with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, scope of Professional Practice, Trust Policies, and evidence‑based practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver autonomous, comprehensive and complex telephone triage and clinical assessment, ensuring safe and appropriate clinical decisions for GP/​patient/carer referrals.
  • Identify risks through assessment, document actions and report appropriately to the caseload holder.
  • Establish red flags for multiple conditions, interpret screening results, and decide whether the patient should be managed in community or requires emergency care.
  • Ensure proper handover to ambulance services when needed.
  • Make critical clinical decisions, challenge and educate referrers to support pathways.
  • Provide professional advice and training within the multi‑disciplinary service; support future development of the service.
Working Pattern
  • Work within a flexible schedule over a 7‑day week, including shifts to provide a 24‑hour service.

UK Home Office Visa Sponsorship: Band 2 clinical and non‑clinical roles and Band 3 non‑clinical roles are not eligible. Non‑clinical Band 7‑9 roles meeting RQF 6 and salary thresholds are eligible. Applicants must evidence right to work in the UK or alternative visa routes.
